Scan-Thor Group history

Scan-Thor was founded by Knud Thor Larsen in 1979 in Copenhagen, Denmark as an official Scandinavian buying office for the mail order companies 3Suisses (France) and Wehkamp (Holland). The main business was furniture and gift articles.

In 1982 the close relationship between the Otto Group (Germany) and Scan-Thor was founded. The primary business with Otto was gifts and housekeeping articles. One year later the activities of fashion/textiles was started.

The first foreign Scan-Thor buying office was established in 1988 in Portugal – this company was called Scan-Port.

Later the same year a quality office opened in Herning, Denmark. The office was only used to inspect quality of textiles within the area.

Scan-Thor UK opens in 1992 and solely operates with furniture.

In 1995 Scan-Thors Baltikum is established in Riga, Latvia. The company operates both in furniture and textiles in the Baltic’s (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia).

One year later Scan-Thor opens a joint venture office in Poland – Otto International Poland. The activities are furniture and textiles.

The Twenty1 Company is established in 1997 as a lifestyle concept within fashion. The first shop is opened in Riga, Latvia same year.

Per 1999 the Scan-Thor head office officially moved to Herning, Denmark.

Scan-Thor and OTTO takes control over the Spanish office in a joint venture – Otto International Spain.

Otto International Romania is official established in 2002 as joint venture between Scan-Thor and Otto International as a buying office of furniture and fashion.

One year later Otto international Bulgaria is opened in the same terms as Otto Int. Romania.

Twenty1 Aps is established as a joint venture with Otto International in 2008. The new trading company sources furniture thorugh the Scan-Thor offices in Europe and though Otto International buying offices in Asia.

Same year is Twenty1 Middle East LLC established in the United Arab Emirates. The Company offers full furniture decoration of offices, housing units, hotels etc.

In 2009 Twenty1 Middle East opens a 1.400 square meter large showroom in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The Scan-Thor Group today employees about 547 people all over Europe.
